Test Product

“WP Simple PayPal Cart” plugin

This is a test product. It will not be shipped to any purchaser.

$0.02

Shipping works perfectly with the WP Simple PayPal Cart plugin. Goes to cart after Buy Now clicked. Can change quantity ordered. Sends a thank-you email from the website.

However, this business PayPal account is linked to another one of my websites. This creates links that are address to the other website, causing potential confusion for the customer.

Product using the “Stripe Payments” plugin

Note: Test purchases must be $0.50 or more (1 penny tests don’t work!)
$0.50
Shipping doesn’t work well with this plugin. All shipping costs get multiplied by 100 by the plugin. (eg: shipping=”0.01″ yields actual shipping of $1; shipping=”0.4″ yields shipping of $40)

Therefore, don’t use shipping in HTML. Just incorporate the shipping cost into the final price.

Also, can’t change quantity ordered. And doesn’t send thank-you email from site email address.

Biggest problem: Stripe transactions occur on this website, and this site is not PCI-compliant. It would currently be a security risk to use this payment gateway. (Stripe asks for proof of PCI-compliance after the first 20 transactions)

The plugin developer says that PCI-compliance is handled by Stripe when using this plugin.

Additional problem: plugin sales popup doesn’t ask buyer for State / Province. So the seller doesn’t have this information when it’s time to ship product.

“Stripe Payments” plugin using shortcodes

(Not ideal: Stripe requires site to be PCI-compliant after the first 20 transactions. This site is not PCI-compliant. See the previous notes for details.)

PayPal using personal account button

(Not ideal: Shows payment to personal email instead of this site.)

PayPal button with business account

(Confusing for users: Shows links to the main site instead of this site.)

Stripe payments are conducted on Buy Now Plus’s PCI-compliant site instead of this one, so security is good.

“Buy Now Plus” charges 2% in addition to Stripe’s 2.9% fee. (Keep in mind however, that PayPal will charge 3.5% to convert from USD ==> CAD for payouts. In theory, funds in Stripe should be depositable into a Canadian USD chequing account.)

(Minimum test amout: $1.00)

Problem: doesn’t send seller an email notification of the sale. (Seller must check the Stripe console for information about sales.)

(Might have to use the “Stripe Payments by Buy Now Plus” plugin to get email notifications.)

Buy Now

2Checkout

Should consider this as an option. They charge 3.5%, and transactions occur on their PCI-compliant site.

Second PayPal account

Would have to set up a new chequing or savings account to go down this route.
